A joint mission sparking future collaboration

A few years back, no one would have imagined something like the Apollo-Soyuz Mission would happen. Though one might consider Armstrong's landing on the moon to be the official end of the Space Race, this symbollic mission of collaboration is one that is crucial to all future space developments. Though it will take some time to see the Soviet Union as a collaborator as opposed to competition, I am excited for the prospect of future advancements that will be made when we combine the expertise of two technological superpowers.

Essentially, the whole world has their eyes glued to their television sets as they watched the Soyuz and Apollo vehicles linked together. It was so odd yet exciting to see such diplomatic actions such as formal handshakes and shared meals happening in outer space. But maybe this seemingly obscure event will become the norm in the future.
